A Chelsea fan has been fined £1,000 for throwing a flare onto the pitch during the Blues' victory over Southampton in the FA Cup.

Cian Murphy was caught on CCTV at the Saints' ground of St Mary's during the 5-1 victory for Chelsea launching a blue flare towards the field.

While the 23-year-old pleaded not guilty to throwing a flare towards a playing area and possessing a firework at a sporing event, the footage shown in court proved to be damning.

Southampton Magistrates' Court ordered Murphy to pay a £450 fine, £620 in costs and a £45 victim surcharge, according to the Daily Mail.

Murphy avoided a football banning order due to having no previous convictions.
