Frenchman arrested by Ukraine intelligence 'plotted Euro 2016 attacks'

Ukraine's intelligence agency SBU confirms that a Frenchman, who was arrested last month, planned to carry out 15 attacks at Euro 2016.

Ukraine's intelligence agency SBU has confirmed that a Frenchman detained last month was planning to carry out 15 attacks at Euro 2016.

The 25-year-old man, who has been described as an 'ultra nationalist', was arrested on the Ukrainian-Polish border with a large collection of weapons, including machine guns, detonators and 125kg of TNT.

SBU chief Vasyl Hrytsak has claimed that the man intended to carry out a series of attacks on France during the football tournament, reports BBC News.

According to The AP, the French national plotted to target railways, bridges and other infrastructures used for the tournament.

Euro 2016 gets underway on Friday.
