Danny Simpson wins appeal to overturn curfew for assaulting ex-girlfriend

Leicester City defender Danny Simpson wins his appeal against a 21-day curfew for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Ward.

Leicester City defender Danny Simpson has had his curfew overturned by Manchester Crown Court after appealing the punishment, which was issued after he was convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Ward.

The footballer was due to miss part of Leicester's Premier League trophy parade on Monday after being placed under a 21-day curfew on Thursday.

District Judge Alexandra Simmonds ordered Simpson to remain in his home in Salford between 10pm and 6am for the duration of the punishment, which involved him wearing an electronic tag.

The judge told Manchester Magistrates' Court that a fine would be "no punishment" for the footballer due to his wealth, but now the Crown Court has opted to lift the curfew following an appeal from Simpson's legal team.

Simpson had already had a community-service order of 300 hours unpaid work revoked due to press intrusion, but he has now been told that he can complete his work over the summer.

The defender was convicted last May.
