The Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG) has agreed to stop holding the annual Hillsborough memorial service at Anfield.
The Liverpool ground has remembered the 96 fans that lost their lives during an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest each year since the tragedy occurred in 1989.
However, the 2016 memorial will be the last after recent inquests into the disaster provided the opportunity for "closure" for those affected.
"The 96 will never be forgotten. It is likely that the inquests will be concluded before the anniversary so this final memorial service will provide the families with some closure," chairman of the HFSG Margaret Aspinall is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"We would also like to extend our thanks to Liverpool Football Club for their continued support over the past 27 years and for hosting the service each year at Anfield.
"We hope that the public and fans respect the decision of the HFSG and will continue to remember the 96 in their own perhaps more private way."
The HFSG's decision to stop the memorial services was a unanimous choice.
