Bastian Schweinsteiger has promised to give away 31 Manchester United shirts to fans as a gesture to those who purchased replicas before his number was switched.
The German World Cup winner was initially given squad number 23 when he moved to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich last month.
However, prior to making his Premier League debut in United's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, Schweinsteiger claimed the number 31 shirt.
On Facebook, supporter Florian contacted Schweinsteiger to inform him that he already owns 23 shirts with the German star's name, but was disappointed to have already bought a '23' United top.
In response, Schweinsteiger said: "What a pity, Florian. I will send you a signed jersey in order to help you out here. Thank you for your great support! Amongst all other fans, who send in a picture wearing one of my old jerseys, I will give away 31 Manchester United jerseys. Just publish your image as a comment under this post. Looking forward to receiving your pictures!"
The midfielder spent 17 years at Bayern before moving to United.
