WWE wrestler Wade Barrett has challenged Wayne Rooney to a Wrestlemania showdown after commenting on the Manchester United striker's alleged dive against Preston North End.
The England captain has received widespread criticism for appearing to dive to win a penalty in United's 3-1 victory over Preston in the fifth round of the tournament on Monday night.
Barrett, who spent part of his childhood in Preston, made reference to the simulation by tweeting: "How about that @WayneRooney dive vs @PNEFC? He won't need to dive when I catch up with him.. #BullHammer #BNB."
Rooney responded: "@WadeBarrett ill get stone cold Steve Austin out of retirement for you. Haha."
Barrett also decided to get Preston's Kevin Davies involved by writing: "@WayneRooney you and @steveaustinBSR Vs me and @Kevin__Davies at Wrestlemania in 6 weeks. Get it booked @VinceMcMahon."
Davies added: "@WadeBarrett @WayneRooney @steveaustinBSR @VinceMcMahon lets get it on!! #tagteam."
United's triumph at Deepdale means that they will face FA Cup holders Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
