Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain faces jail time for 'torturing young maid'

Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife could be imprisoned for 14 years if they are found guilty of torturing an 11-year-old housemaid.

Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife could be jailed for between seven and 14 years if they are found guilty of torturing an 11-year-old housemaid.

The medium-fast bowler and his partner Jasmine Jahan Nritto Shahadat have been charged of employing and assaulting a minor in Dhaka.

Hossain, who has been suspended by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, turned himself in to police in October after reportedly going into hiding in early September after it was alleged by Mahfuza Akhter Happy that she had been physically abused by the couple.

The young girl, who told the authorities that she had been working for the sportsman and his wife for a year, was found in a street in September with multiple injuries, including a broken leg and black eye.

According to BBC News, the case will be heard on January 12.

Hossain and his wife, who are currently on bail, deny the charges.
