Oscar Pistorius appeal ruling due on Thursday

Oscar Pistorius will discover whether he faces a return to prison this Thursday.

Oscar Pistorius will learn whether he faces a return to jail on Thursday when South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal rules whether to change his conviction for killing former girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp to murder.

The six-time Paralympic champion was released on house arrest in October, having served just one fifth of his five-year jail sentence for culpable homicide.

"The judgement will be delivered at 9.45am [local time] on December 3, 2015," said the Supreme Court of Appeal in a statement.

Pistorius shot Steenkamp dead through a locked bathroom door at the athlete's home in Pretoria during the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013, claiming that he had mistaken her for an intruder.

Earlier this month, prosecutors lodged an appeal to the Supreme Court in Bloemfontein to have the double amputee's conviction overturned, arguing that he is guilty of murder.

They want him to serve a minimum prison term of 15 years for his part in Steenkamp's death.
