Northern Ireland awarded more Euro tickets

More Euro 2016 tickets are released for Northern Ireland supporters after a UEFA blunder penalised the country's most ardent supporters.

UEFA is to give Northern Ireland more tickets for this summer's European Championships following fan discontent over the initial allocation.

The allocation process was widely criticised by fans and publicised by local media after lifelong supporters with proven attendance records lost out on tickets, while fans with no prior attendance were rewarded in the ballot.

Following pressure from the Northern Irish FA, UEFA released a further 1,276 tickets for the Poland game last week but has now awarded 93 more tickets to the Germany game and 505 more tickets for the clash with Ukraine.

Patrick Nelson, chief executive of the Irish Football Association, said on Thursday that "quite a small, inadvertent error" by UEFA meant that fans with significant attendance records had actually been penalised in the initial round of allocation by not receiving any tickets.

The IFA has confirmed that a special ticketing portal will be opened for fans who missed out to apply for the new batch of tickets.
