American baseball team the New York Yankees are reportedly in talks with Notts County over a possible takeover of the League Two outfit.

The Yankees, who are worth an estimated £2.5bn, have been linked with the purchase of an English football club in recent months, and according to Sky Sports News, Notts County have been identified by the baseball team.

The report claims that Yankee Global Enterprises are attracted to Notts County due to their status as the world's oldest professional football team, with records of games as early as November 1862.

There has been no comment from either club regarding the speculation, but it is understood that talks have been ongoing for several weeks as the American baseball team look to buy into English football.

Notts County are currently eighth in the League Two table after 16 games of the 2016-17 campaign.
