Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has been summoned to court to testify in a corruption case.

The Spaniard will attend court as a witness, as judge Eloy Velasco investigates the behaviour of businessmen and councillors linked with alleged payments for the awarding of contracts.

The club released a statement confirming that Perez will be attending court.

"Given the reports in the last hours, the Real Madrid wish to state that, next Monday [March 2], president Florentino Perez will attend to testify before judge Eloy Velasco, in relation to the services provided to the club for one year by an analytic research company in the digital domain, owned by Alejandro de Pedro, the accused in Operation Punica," a club statement read.

The investigation was created after Swiss authorities reportedly made Spanish officials aware of potential money laundering by Francisco Granados, who was the former secretary general of the People's Party (PP) for Madrid.
