James McClean 'slams newspaper on Twitter'

Republic of Ireland's James McClean reportedly describes the Belfast Telegraph as "sectarian" and "bitter".

Wigan Athletic and Republic of Ireland winger James McClean could potentially have landed himself in hot water for describing a Northern Ireland newspaper as "sectarian".

The Football Association of Ireland have reportedly been considering whether to punish the Derry-born player, who hit out at the 'Belfast Telegraph' on the social networking website.

McClean's blast came after the newspaper published an article on Saturday marking the 20th anniversary of the World Cup qualifier between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland at Windsor Park.

According to the Daily Mail, McClean wrote: "belfast telegraph is nothing but a bitter sectarian paper you expect anything less by now."

The 24-year-old, who deleted the tweet, is also said to have claimed that the newspaper tried to "stitch" him up numerous times.
