Police probe Jessica Ennis-Hill tweet

Police are investigating reports of an abusive tweet aimed at Jessica Ennis-Hill involving Ched Evans.

South Yorkshire Police have revealed that they are investigating reports of an abusive tweet aimed at Jessica Ennis-Hill.

The 28-year-old revealed on Thursday that she would want her name removed on a stand at Sheffield United if the club re-signed convicted rapist Ched Evans.

She was later sent a message on Twitter saying: "I hope [Evans] rapes her".

The account from which the tweet was sent has now been deactivated, but police have confirmed that they are investigating.

A statement said: "Officers are making efforts to contact the individual concerned, but have launched an investigation into the posts online."

TV presenter Charlie Webster resigned from her role as Sheffield United patron this week following the news that Evans was back training with the club.
