England full-back Mike Brown to be assessed before Ireland encounter

Mike Brown will be assessed over the next week as England hope to have him available to play Ireland in the Six Nations, head coach Stuart Lancaster reveals.

England head coach Stuart Lancaster has revealed that Mike Brown will be assessed over the coming week before a decision is taken on whether he can play against Ireland.

The full-back was stretchered off after just 13 minutes of England's 47-17 win over Italy in the Six Nations today, as he appeared to be knocked out on the pitch.

However, he did not go to hospital and was seen back on the substitutes' bench in the second half at Twickenham.

Lancaster told reporters: "It helps that we have a fortnight before our next match. We have training sessions this week and Mike will not take part in any of them while he follows the protocols. We will see how he goes the following week before deciding whether to pick him for Ireland.

"I saw him after the game and he seemed fine, if a bit grumpy because he had to miss most of the game. He sustained the injury saving a try. I do not know if he was knocked out, but all the protocols will be followed before he returns to action."

England have a two-week break before they face Ireland, who also have a 100% record after two games, on March 1st.
