Great Britain's Ellie Simmonds touches second in the women's S6 50m freestyle heat.

Great Britain's Paralympic double gold medallist Ellie Simmonds has finished with the second-best time in the women's S6 50m freestyle heat.

The 17-year-old, who has dwarfism, started a little off the pace at the beginning of the contest due to her slight disadvantage of not being able to dive as far as her opponents.

Despite an unsettled start, the Brit carried out her trademark fast finish by launching up the length of the pool to end strongly but it wasn't enough to beat Mirjam de Koning-Peper of the Netherlands, who clinched a Paralympic record time of 35.05s.

Simmonds's time of 36.45s places her in the fourth lane for the final this evening, where she will be the only athlete representing Great Britain.
