Michael Phelps has revealed that he will have to change his strategy following his qualification for the 200m butterfly final.
The American has admitted that qualification was the only thing on his mind during the race but conceded that his tactics may have to be altered if he is to claim his first gold medal of this year's Olympics after recording a time of 1:54.53
Phelps told BBC Sport: "I made my first Olympic team in this event 12 years ago. The only thing that mattered was reaching the final and I want to win that race.
"But I am going to have to think of a different strategy. The shorter events are working a lot better for me right now."
The final of the event will take place on Tuesday evening.
