Andy Murray loses his opening match at the ATP World Tour Finals to David Ferrer at London's O2 Arena.

Andy Murray has lost the opening match of his ATP World Tour Finals campaign against Spaniard David Ferrer this afternoon.

World number three Murray started the match brightly and even broke Ferrer's serve in the third game of the match.

However, Ferrer broke back at the first time of asking before going on to take the set 6-4.

During the interval, Murray required seven minutes' treatment on a groin injury that he sustained during the opening set.

The complaint didn't look to be troubling Murray during the next set, as he went on to break Ferrer's serve on two occasions.

Ferrer, though, held his nerve to fight back on Murray's service games to equal the score at 5-5.

The 29-year-old went on to win the next games to wrap up the win 6-4 7-5.

It is the first time that Ferrer has beaten Murray since the Madrid Masters in 2010.
