Andy Murray proves too strong for a fatigued Gilles Simon and progresses to the Australian Open quarter-finals with a win in straight sets.

Andy Murray continued his trouble-free run in the Australian Open with a comfortable 6-3 6-1 6-3 win over Gilles Simon this morning.

Simon was involved in a lengthy five-set battle with Gael Monfils on Sunday and struggled from the outset.

Murray showed no mercy and peppered the ball around the court to claim the first set in 37 minutes.

The Frenchman tried to mount a response but despite breaking Murray early in the second set lost four consecutive games on serve to slip out of contention.

Simon stopped the rot at the start of the third set but it merely delayed the inevitable as Murray cranked up the pressure to close out the match.

The Scot completed an efficient win in just 92 minutes to set up a fourth-round clash with unseeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.
