Roger Federer admits that he would have liked to face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals of the French Open.

Roger Federer has revealed that he wanted Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to prevail against Novak Djokovic in their French Open quarter-final this afternoon.

Djokovic saved four match points in the fourth set before going on to seal the fifth and advance to a semi-final against Federer, who came from two sets down to defeat Juan Martin del Potro.

"I would have loved to play [Tsonga] here in Paris. I have a feeling that the crowd would have loved to see such a match," said Federer.

"For him, it's a disappointment. As for me, it's nothing different as from last year. I'm playing Djokovic in the semi-final."

Federer, 30, came out on top in that semi-final but Djokovic is fully focused on taking victory at Roland Garros this year. Doing so would make him the first man since Rod Laver 1969 to hold all four Grand Slams at one time.
