Maria Sharapova has progressed to the final at Indian Wells after Ana Ivanovic retired early in the second set.
The Russian had won the first set 6-4, which lasted over an hour as Ivanovic paused play for an injury time-out following the completion of the ninth game.
Although the Serb took the opening game of the second set, she reluctantly conceded the match midway through the next.
Sharapova will now face world number one Victoria Azarenka in a repeat of the Australian Open final, after the Belarusian saw-off Angelique Kerber.
