Nadia Petrova acknowledges Russia's Olympic expectations

Nadia Petrova reveals Russian mentality ahead of Olympics, but insists she won't be disappointed if she leaves London without a medal.

Nadia Petrova has revealed that Russia expects success at the Olympics, but she insists she would not be disappointed if she leaves London without a medal.

Petrova, along with Maria Sharapova, Vera Zvonareva and Maria Kirilenko, will represent Russia when the Olympics begin next week, and she is aware what her nation expects of their representatives.

Petrova said: "The Russian mentality is if you are going to the Olympics, you have got to be winning medals and failure is not acceptable.

"But I won't be disappointed if I leave the Olympics without a medal, as long as I give my best effort. For me, life goes on."

Russia earned a cleansweep in the ladies singles in Beijing in 2008, with Elena Demetieva, Dinara Safina and Zvonareva picking up gold, silver and bronze respectively.
