Stanislas Wawrinka advanced through the opening round of the Monte Carlo Masters against Feliciano Lopez this afternoon.
The Swiss player made light work of the opening set, dropping just one game on his way to a 6-1 success.
Despite surrendering his serve early in the next set, Spaniard Lopez put up more resistance.
However, following a short rain break and with the score a 5-4 in Wawrinka's favour, the 27-year-old served out to ensure his progression with a 6-1 6-4 success.
He will now face either Pablo Andujar or Federico Delbonis for a place in round three.
