Roger Federer began 2012 with a comfortable victory over Nikolay Davydenko at the Qatar Open.
The Swiss came through in an under an hour against the former world number three.
Federer broke in the opening game and didn't face a break point in a rampant opening set which he took 6-2 before mimicking the score in the second.
"I played agressively, served well and had good movement," the 16-time Grand Slam winner said afterwards.
Federer will now face Slovenian qualifier Grega Zemlja in the second round.
