David Ferrer defeats Feliciano Lopez in three sets

David Ferrer will meet Milos Raonic in the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open after defeating Feliciano Lopez in three sets.

David Ferrer has booked a spot in the semi-finals of the Barcelona Open after overcoming fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-7 7-6 6-3.

Lopez managed to take the lead courtesy of a tie-break after a lengthy first set, where both players stood firm and continued to hold their serve throughout the early stages.

While Ferrer executed a number of impressive forehand shots, the 30-year-old failed to compose his game in the tie-break and relinquished the chance to go one set to the good.

The competitors continued to be well matched in the second set, forcing another tie-break. Despite a strong effort from Lopez, it was Ferrer who managed to step up his game and draw level on sets.

The deciding set was another tight affair, with both players determined to fight off their opponent but it was Ferrer who forced a breakthrough and snatched victory after two hours and 45 minutes of play.

Ferrer will face Milos Raonic, who dumped Andy Murray out of the tournament, in the semi-final.
