Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has moved into round two of the Valencia Open with a three-set victory over Spanish teenager Javier Marti.
It was the first time that Marti had an opponent from the world's top ten, but he got off to a positive start with a 6-4 success.
However, Tsonga struck back to win 7-5, before easing to a 6-2 triumph in the deciding set.
The 26-year-old, who won the Vienna Open at the weekend, will take on Sam Querrey in the next round.
