British number one Andy Murray has expressed his shock at winning the US Open.

The 25-year-old overcame world number two Novak Djokovic 7-6 7-5 2-6 3-6 6-2 in the final at a windy Flushing Meadows.

"They were incredibly tricky conditions," said Murray. "After the third and fourth sets it was tough mentally.

"Novak is so strong. He fights until the end of every match and I don't know how I managed to come through in the end."

Murray had previously been a beaten finalist in four Grand Slam finals.
