Great Britain speed skater Elise Christie has deleted her Twitter account after receiving threats and suffering abuse online, it has been reported.
The 23-year-old spoke earlier today of receiving "threatening" messages after being stripped of a silver medal in the Sochi Winter Olympics short track 500m event earlier this week.
BBC Sport reporter Richard Conway posted earlier this morning: "BBC Sport understands that Elise Christie and Team GB officials made a joint decision to delete her Twitter account on Friday after receiving a number of 'unsavoury' messages.
"The 24-year-old is said to have been 'uncomfortable' with the messages she received via the social media platform and decided, after consulting with senior British officials, to remove the account in order to avoid any further distractions."
Christie was also disqualified from the 1500m event earlier this morning after being judged to have gone inside the centre line before finishing.
