Jon Eley progresses in 500m

Great Britain's Jon Eley is through to the quarter-finals of the 500m short track speed skating in Sochi, but Jack Whelbourne misses out.

Great Britain's Jon Eley has progressed to the quarter-finals in the men's 500m in short track speed skating at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The 29-year-old, who was Team GB's flagbearer at the opening ceremony, finished second in his heat to make it through to Friday.

Eley came in behind world silver medallist Viktor Ahn, who comfortably won the race.

However, teammate Jack Whelbourne could not join Eley in the quarter-finals, stumbling early in his heat before finishing fourth.
