Two-time Olympic speed skating champion Shani Davis has admitted that he "didn't have speed" in the 1,000m final earlier today.
The United States athlete was looking for his third straight gold at the distance, but had to settle for eighth place.
"I didn't have speed in the first 600m of the race, compared to the people behind me," BBC Sport quotes the 31-year-old as saying.
"I am a professional, I couldn't care less about pressure. I have the medals and the most important thing to me is the performance. I just wasn't able to do it today."
Davis has won a total a four Olympic medals during his career.
