Ski jumper Sarah Hendrickson: 'We've worked so hard'

Sarah Hendrickson wants to enjoy the ski jump competition following the effort that was put in to bring a female version to the Games.

American ski jumper Sarah Hendrickson has admitted that it has been a lot of hard work to get a women's version of the event into the Winter Olympics, but was looking forward to taking part.

Hendrickson, who will wear bib number one and become the first female to compete in an Olympic ski jump competition, said that she wanted the spectators to enjoy the show after all the effort that has gone in.

"We have been waiting for this day for so many years," she said on Instagram. "The training, the World Cups and the rehab all lead up to this moment. But guess what? This too will come and pass and so pressure aside I'm ski jumping for myself tonight.

"Few people know what it takes so in end happiness is the most valuable accomplishment in this journey. Enjoy watching us girls fly tonight and know we have not just worked for the past four years but for the past decade in the gym and against the politics. Thanks to everyone that made this possible."

The first round begins at 5.30pm GMT.
