Aberdeen eager for Derek McInnes stay

Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne reveals that he is keen to extend the contract of manager Derek McInnes.

Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne has revealed that he is keen to extend the contract of manager Derek McInnes.

McInnes, who joined the club one year ago, has guided the Dons to the League Cup final, the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup and second place in the Premiership table this season.

The 42-year-old's current deal at Pittodrie Stadium is due to expire at the end of the campaign.

"I'm very conscious of the reputation Derek has and how it is growing," Milne told the Daily Mail. "We'll need to work hard to make sure Derek stays here for a substantial period of time.

"Derek has convinced players to re-sign and make a commitment. I think Derek's approach is the same and he has to take the lead and make the same commitment. We're confident he is committed."

Aberdeen return to action on Saturday when they host Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.
