David Seaman has backed former Arsenal teammate Patrick Vieira to succeed Unai Emery as the club's next permanent manager.

Following a meeting with owner Stan Kroenke on Monday, the Spaniard was dismissed by the club on Friday morning due to a winless run stretching to seven games.

Brendan Rodgers, Mikel Arteta, Carlo Ancelotti, Nuno Espirito Santo and Massimiliano Allegri have all been earmarked as potential candidates for the position.

Speaking on the subject of Emery's replacement, Seaman told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily Podcast: "I am sure Arsenal fans would love Patrick to come back to the club. Knowing Patrick, I think he would be the right man.

"I knew what he was like as a player. I knew what he was like as a captain. He was a born leader and everybody knows that. Maybe go down that route instead of a tried and tested route."

Vieira is currently manager at Ligue 1 side Nice, with the former midfielder guiding them to seventh place during his first season at the club.
