Roberto Martinez: 'No disagreement with Manchester City over Vincent Kompany'

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez denies having a disagreement with Manchester City after confirming that he will be without Vincent Kompany for this week's qualifiers.

Roberto Martinez has denied having a club-versus-country row with Manchester City after backtracking on his decision to include Vincent Kompany in his Belgium squad.

The 31-year-old was called up to the Red Devils' 27-man group on Friday, despite not playing a single minute for his club side in more than a month.

City boss Pep Guardiola criticised the decision to call up Kompany, insisting that the centre-back would not play any part in the World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus.

Martinez has now confirmed that, following talks with the Citizens, his skipper will remain in Manchester to continue his injury rehab.

"It's not a disagreement. We've got protocols and a way of working," he told reporters. "We're going to call up the players, the squad was announced on Friday and then we've got another two days to have a clear assessment of where the players are.

"That's the situation. Vincent Kompany hasn't been in the squad and hasn't been able to join in with the activity of the first team. So, it was clear that he wasn't going to make it for these games and it was a very good communication with Manchester City."

Kompany has missed each of City's last seven matches since picking up a calf injury while playing for Belgium against Gibraltar on August 31.
