Eddie Howe: 'Romelu Lukaku lucky not to see a red card'

Eddie Howe suggests that Romelu Lukaku "should have been off the pitch" before the end of the first half for his challenges on Nathan Ake and Harry Arter.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has claimed that Romelu Lukaku should have been dismissed during Wednesday night's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

The Belgium international scored the only goal of the game at Old Trafford after getting between two opposition defenders and heading the ball past Asmir Begovic.

Howe believes that Lukaku should have been sent off before the end of the first half, though, having avoided a yellow card for his late tackle on Nathan Ake, shortly before taking out Harry Arter to enter referee Graham Scott's book.

Speaking after the match, the Bournemouth boss told reporters: "I was having chats with the fourth official and I thought the first tackle was a yellow card in my opinion.

"I thought he was very late on Nathan. We made that point to the fourth official and then of course he picks up another one which is a clear yellow - he should have been off the pitch.

"The referee missed a couple, I don't want to go on about referees again but you have started me off. He missed a couple of tackles from them and then the first tackle we make we get a yellow, that was difficult. I just had a quick chat with him at the end."

Lukaku has now scored six goals in five appearances against Bournemouth in the Premier League, with five of those coming in home games.
