Report clears Qatar to host 2022 World Cup English FA criticised

A FIFA report clears Qatar of any wrongdoing and allows the Gulf state to host the 2022 World Cup.

A FIFA report has cleared Qatar of any wrongdoing and allows the Gulf state to host the 2022 World Cup.

The report also accuses the English Football Association of giving FIFA a bad image, while disregarding bidding rules to try to stage the 2018 World Cup.

Qatar have faced a number of corruption allegations but the report suggests it is the FA who did not follow bidding rules in their 2018 bid, according to BBC Sport.

In the 42-page report, the England bid officials have been accused of trying to win the support of former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, with a number of examples used to clarify the accusations.

FIFA's independent ethics adjudicator Hans-Joachim Eckert states that England's bidding officials "showed a willingness, time and again" to try to meet the expectations of Warner, who quit his role 2011 due to accusations of bribery.

The report could result in an investigation into those involved in the England bid and action brought against those found guilty of wrongdoing.
