Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith has revealed that the club have not opened discussions with defensive end JJ Watt over a new deal.
Watt is eligible to agree a new contract with the Texans after playing his first three years in the NFL, but Smith has revealed that the club have no plans to increase his salary off his rookie deal yet despite his excellent performances.
Smith told reporters: "We're not in talks with J.J. We're in internal talks to determine what our strategy [is] and how we'll continue to put this football team together and move forward, whether we're talking about free agency or the draft."
The 24-year-old has recorded 37.5 sacks in his first three seasons in the NFL and was voted defensive player of the year in the 2012 campaign.
