Mark Sanchez has said that he plans on being the New York Jets' starting quarterback in the opening game of the 2013 NFL season.
The 26-year-old is facing competition for his place in the team from rookie Geno Smith, who was picked in the second round of this year's Draft by the Jets.
The quarterback told the New York Daily News: "I don't plan on [watching from the bench]. I'm planning on playing, I'm planning on starting.
"If I was insecure about something or couldn't [handle] this market or this pressure or can't handle this competition, maybe I wouldn't say much to [Smith]. Maybe I'd be a little scared to give him help.
"But I don't feel like that. I just don't. That's not my personality. I'm confident, I'm ready to go, I can do it, I know I can."
The Jets finished last season third in the AFC East.
