The Argentine boxer looked to stun the former WBO light heavyweight champion in the opening round, as he unloaded a barrage of shots.
However, the Welshman responded and quickly asserted himself on his opponent, who appeared jaded on his stool at the end of the second round after taking plenty of punishment.
Cleverly almost finished the job towards the end of the third when the 27-year-old connected with a left hook that had Valori rocking.
In the end, the Welsh fighter's bombardment forced the South American into submission during the fourth round and caps a second early victory for Cleverly since moving up a weight division.
