Ex-England batsman Kevin Pietersen has said that Yorkshire all-rounder Adil Rashid should have been included in the team to play New Zealand at Headingley.
Rashid has been in fine form for Yorkshire over the past two seasons and was included in England's touring squad that went to the West Indies in April.
However, the 27-year-old, who bowls leg spin, was overlooked for the first two Test matches this summer and Pietersen believes that the selectors will live to regret it ahead of the Ashes.
He wrote on Twitter: "I wish England had thought about the Tests ahead and given Rashid a go this Test match. I've got a funny feeling they might need him!
"If Adil is next in line, I feel for him cos he's gonna be needed in Test two of the Ashes I think. Jump in the deep end, Adil, why don't you! I hope I'm wrong cos I really like this young England side, but I honestly feel that they've made a big mistake! Time will tell."
Rashid has yet to play in a Test for his country.
