Jos Buttler: Competition for England places "healthy"

Jos Buttler insists that those not currently in the England fold are "desperate" to make an impact in training in order to force their way into the side.

Jos Buttler has insisted that competition for a starting place in the England side ahead of the crucial match against Bangladesh next week is "healthy".

England must win their final two games in order to keep alive hopes of progressing from the pool stage of the Cricket World Cup, having suffered three heavy defeats in their four games so far.

Alex Hales is in line for a first taste of action at the tournament at the expense of Gary Ballance, while Buttler himself may be moved up the order.

"We've got three training days here where guys who aren't in the side are desperate to put their hands up to say they should be playing," the 24-year-old is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"And the guys who are already in the side and haven't performed as well as they would have liked want to get some form and say, 'No I am the right man and stick with me'. That makes for healthy competition for the team."

England's must-win match against Bangladesh gets underway in the early hours of Sunday morning.
