Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy is confirmed as the flag bearer for Team GB at this Friday's opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games.

Sir Chris Hoy has been confirmed as the flag bearer for Team GB at this Friday's opening ceremony of the London Olympics.

The 36-year-old, who will be competing at his fourth Games, was also given the honour at the closing ceremony four years ago in Beijing.

He will become the first cyclist to ever have the honour of being the flag bearer for Great Britain at an opening ceremony.

Hoy, who is the most successful male track cyclist in British Olympic history, wrote on his Twitter account: "Delighted to be able to say that I'll be carrying the flag at the Opening Ceremony! Massive honour!"

The Scot will be looking to add to his Olympic medal tally of five, four of which are golds, at this year's Games.
