Taylor wins World Matchplay title

Phil Taylor has won the World Matchplay championship for the 14th time by beating Adrian Lewis 18-13 in the final.

The 52-year-old averaged 111 to defeat his former protege, who is a two-time world champion but has yet to taste success in this tournament.

Lewis put up a good fight at Winter Gardens, averaging 105 with his three darts, but he found the 16-time world champion too hot to handle.

Taylor, whose 106.28 tournament average is a career best, beat Eric Bristow to win the title for the first time in 1990.
