Hector Bellerin has sparked injury concerns after withdrawing from the Spain Under-21 squad on Wednesday evening.
The right-back, who has become a regular member of Arsene Wenger's first team since breaking through the youth setup in 2013, has been replaced with Sunderland's Javier Manquillo.
The national team's official Twitter page confirmed the news, but did not reveal whether Bellerin has been struck down with a serious injury.
Arsenal will be hoping that it is a minor issue given that there is uncertainty over Alexis Sanchez's muscle tear, which the attacker picked up while on international duty with Chile.
Bellerin played the full 90 minutes of the Gunners' 1-1 draw with North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday after sitting out of the 3-2 victory over Razgrad Ludogorets in the Champions League.
Widespread reports have claimed that the 21-year-old is on the verge of signing a new deal after snubbing rumoured interest from Barcelona and Manchester City.
