Arsenal are ready to make Robin van Persie their highest-paid player ever by offering him a record £130,000-per-week deal.

Arsenal are reportedly about to offer Robin van Persie a club record £7m-per-year deal to keep him at the Emirates Stadium.

The move outlines the Gunners' desperation to keep hold of their star man, who has fired 30 Premier League goals this season, winning both the Players' and Football Writers' Player of the Year awards.

Speculation about the Dutchman's future has been rife of late, with many suggesting that Manchester City may be about to make a £25m move.

With just a year left on his contract, the Daily Mail suggests that Arsene Wenger and Ivan Gazidis are keen to sit down with Van Persie as soon as possible in order to thrash out the £130,000-per-week deal.

It is believed that he will also be offered a £5m signing-on fee.
