Roberto Di Matteo is happy with Chelsea's form in their remaining three competitions.

Chelsea interim manager Roberto Di Matteo believes that his side are on course to finish in the Champions League places.

Sixth-placed Chelsea host fifth-placed Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night as the pair, along with Tottenham Hotspur, play their game in hand over Arsenal, who are third.

Di Matteo has praised his players for still being in the hunt for a top-four finish after reaching the finals of the FA Cup and Champions League.

"We have been trying to make up the distance on the clubs ahead of us and now we are in a good position to get fourth," said Di Matteo.

"From my first day in charge we have always said getting into the top four is crucial. It is credit to the players that we are so close to Spurs, Newcastle and even Arsenal while we have still managed to progress in the Champions League and FA Cup.

"We didn't want to just throw anything away and, fortunately, we are in a position where we are still fighting on all three fronts."

A Blues win over Newcastle and a Spurs defeat at Bolton Wanderers would see Di Matteo's side jump to fourth and be just two points behind Arsenal with two games remaining.
