Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore has backed Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho's decision to snub each other after Arsenal's recent win over Chelsea.
The bitter rivals snubbed the traditional post-match handshake on two occasions at Wembley after the Gunners clinched the Community Shield with a 1-0 triumph.
However, Scudamore admits that he does not care whether or not managers engage in the custom, insisting that ignoring the gesture is more honourable than feigning their motives behind it.
"What would be worse is a meaningless handshake where it meant nothing. The authenticity is far more important," he is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
"Shake hands if you mean it, shake hands if you want to shake hands. If there is some enmity between you, that is for the individuals to decide, not me.
"It is rivalry, it is competitiveness, and people understand it goes back a long way."
Victory saw the Frenchman end his 13-match winless streak against his Portuguese counterpart.
