Arsene Wenger impressed by Petr Cech display

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger praises the performance of Petr Cech after he kept yet another clean sheet in the Gunners' 1-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has talked up the importance of Petr Cech after the keeper kept yet another clean sheet this afternoon.

Having broken the Premier League record for clean sheets against Bournemouth on Monday, Cech kept number 171 of his career during a 1-0 win over Newcastle United today.

The Gunners had to grind out the win to move two points clear at the top of the table, and Wenger acknowledged that they needed a contribution from the shot-stopper to get the victory.

"He made two big saves. One in the first half and one at the beginning of the second, on top of that he gives calm and never panics and today we needed that," Wenger told reporters.

Arsenal host Sunderland in the FA Cup in their next match before facing Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday, January 13.
