Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that the race for the Premier League title this season will be "very open".

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has predicted a "very open" race for the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners finished fifth in the table last term but have vowed to invest heavily in the transfer market this summer in order to mount a sustained title challenge.

Manchester City, Liverpool, champions Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and big-spending Everton all have their own ambitions of finishing top of the pile this season, however, and Wenger is gearing up for a tough fight.

"It's very difficult at the moment to evaluate the real forces in the Premier League," he told the Arsenal website.

"Man United has bought, City has bought many players, Liverpool has bought, we have bought, Chelsea have bought, Tottenham have a young group that's together for a long time.

"It's very open and it's very difficult for me, like certainly for you to predict exactly what will happen."

Arsenal get the new Premier League season underway on Friday, August 13 with a home encounter against 2015-16 champions Leicester City.
