Maurizio Zamparini: 'Joel Campbell deal not agreed'

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini claims that a deal to sign Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has not been agreed.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has revealed that the club are unlikely to complete a deal to sign Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.

The Costa Rican spent his first campaign with the Gunners' first-team squad last season, but a lack of opportunities persuaded Arsene Wenger to send him out on loan to Villarreal.

Despite reports suggesting that Palermo were close to agreeing a £7.1m fee for the 23-year-old, Zamparini claims that the two clubs are still far apart in their valuations.

"I'm here in London to try a final drive for the player, but Arsenal aren't moving from their initial positions," he told Il Giornale di Sicilia.

"Campbell is unattainable as of now. If some margins open up for a negotiation then all for the better, otherwise we can't do anything.

"Our market campaign is aimed towards reinforcing our roster, but we don't want to overcrowd our attack because we'll end up with seven players for two spots."

Campbell has made just seven appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.
