Barcelona forward Lionel Messi is reportedly ready to return to first-team training after recovering from a calf injury.

Barcelona have reportedly been provided with a boost with the news that Lionel Messi is ready to return to first-team training.

As a result of a calf injury sustained while on international duty, the forward was unable to play any part of Barcelona's opening La Liga fixture at Athletic Bilbao.

The Argentine's absence was felt as the Catalan giants succumbed to a 1-0 defeat, although it appears that Ernesto Valverde's squad is set to be boosted by the return of the 32-year-old.

According to AS, Messi will take part in training on Monday, with the view of making an appearance in the squad for the weekend's home clash against Real Betis.

Barcelona find themselves in 16th position in the standings after the first week of fixtures in Spain's top flight.
